Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you from?

I was born and bred in Manchester, England. I live there with my husband and our rescue dog, Loli, who came to live with us in 2021.

I have lots of family in Ireland as well, because my Mum and Dad were born there.

When is your birthday?

I was born in January 1984 and I am a classically stubborn Capricorn.

How many books have you had published?

Five, plus a dyslexia-friendly novella and a short story. They are:

  • Last One to Die (UK, US, Poland and France)

  • Win Lose Kill Die (UK, US, Poland and Hungary)

  • The Midnight Game (UK, US and Poland)

  • Signed Sealed Dead (UK, US and Poland)

  • Keep Your Friends Close (UK, US, Poland and Germany)

  • Welcome to Camp Killer (Novella, UK, US and Sweden)

  • A Taste of Darkness (My story is called ‘Til Death Do Us Part) (UK)

I also have a brand new book, PAINT ME LIKE YOUR DEAD GIRLS out in July 2026. You can preorder it via my linktree here.

Which order should I read your books in?

Any! They are all stand-alone, which means they can be enjoyed in any order. I do like to think they all happen in the same universe, though, so if you have eagle eyes you might find the tiny Easter eggs in each book. WIN LOSE KILL DIE and KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE are linked, and you can enjoy them together or separately as standalone.

Where can I get signed copies of your books?

I often pop into bookshops to sign their stock - I update my Instagram if I do this. Otherwise I sign books at events or do the occasional giveaway on my social media channels. There were 500 signed special editions of KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE at independent bookshops in September 2025, so you might still find some!

How do we find out about your events?

Check my 'Events' page for up to date listings. I also post these on my Instagram (they’re usually on there first to be honest).

Do you chair events?

I do! I have interviewed Holly Jackson, Karen M McManus and Jennifer Lynn Barnes plus many other YA and adult authors.

Can we see a picture of your dog?

Of course!

Loli is a mixed breed and we have no idea what she is, because she came to live with us when she was 5 months old after being rescued from a park where she was living as a stray. She is very funny, very cute and loves to climb on my desk when I'm trying to write!

There are loads of pictures on her on my Instagram too.

Can you visit my school?

I’m afraid I'm not doing any school visits at the moment. I will still try to come to school book award ceremonies - meeting readers at these events is one of my very favourite things to do!

How can I contact you?

There is a contact form on my home page. I can’t promise I will reply but I’ll try my best! Please make sure you have a parent or guardian’s permission if you’re under 16. You can also get in touch via my agent, Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown, or my publishers at Delacorte Press (USA) and Penguin (UK).

I’ve made some fan art. Can I send it to you?

You can! I love seeing fan art so if you’d like me to see it either send it to me via my contact page or if you’d like to send a hard copy you can send it via my agency and they will pass it on:

Can I follow you on social media?

Yes! I’m @CynthiaMurphyYA on all platforms. I update Instagram the most often so that’s usually the best place to find out information (or see pictures of Loli).
